Visit Indiana Golf is highlighting the best 18 golf holes from 18 different public golf courses across the Hoosier State. Hole 6 on Indiana’s Signature 18 is found on the Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker. This course is located on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette.
The Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker is an 18-hole, links-style, par 72 championship golf course featuring large bent-grass greens, fairways, and tees. The layout presents a challenge for golfers of all abilities with vast sand bunkers, native grasslands, ponds, and a natural celery bog. Kampen is rated one of the top collegiate courses in the nation and has been awarded 4.5 stars on Golf Digest’s “Places to Play.”
The 6th hole at Kampen is a tough, yet fair, par 4. On the 6th, pars are earned, and there’s never a problem accepting a bogey. Your tee shot is struck from an elevated tee. An ideal tee shot will move left to right around the Celery Bog, which means shot placement is important.
Usually, the 6th is played into the teeth of the wind, which adds to its degree of difficulty. As you approach the green, steer clear of the water hazard and the bunkers – both of which sit to the right of the green. If your greenside approach veers left of the putting surface, you’ll have to deal with the tall rough.
The Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker is one of seven different courses on Indiana’s Pete Dye Golf Trail. Pete Dye is considered one of the greatest golf architects and he called Indiana home. Take the Pete Dye Golf Trail Challenge for a special golf experience. Complete all seven courses on Indiana’s Pete Dye Golf Trail and receive an official pin flag – and bragging rights for life!
